Coeurage Theater Company LogoCoeurage Theatre Company, LA’s ‘Pay What You Want’ Company, has announced the second production of its 2014  season, Andronicus, adapted and directed by Coeurage artistic director Jeremy Lelliott. There will be one preview performance on Friday, July 11 at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, July 12 at 8pmAndronicus will play through August 17 at Coeurage’s new home, the Lyric-Hyperion Theatre & Cafe in Silver Lake.

Deliciously twisted humor gives way to unexpected poignancy in this bold take on William Shakespeare’s original horror play The Lamentable Tragedy of Titus Andronicus. Reveling in the darkest corners of human nature, Andronicus is a streamlined adaptation of Shakespeare’s most violent play; the bard’s masterful dramatic structure and brutal tale of revenge have been carefully preserved.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Brian Abraham, Anthony Mark Barrow, Ted Barton, Gabriel Di Chiara, Kaitlyn Gault, Doug Harvey, Mark Jacobson, Zach Kanner, John Klopping, Nardeep Khurmi, TJ Marchbank, John McKetta, Katie Pelensky,Paul Romero, Chris Salazar, and Rebekah Tripp.

Scenic design is by Dean Cameron, lighting design is by Tito Fleetwood Ladd, costume design is by Kara McLeod, and sound design is by Joseph V. Calarco. Choreography is by Tiffany Cole with fight choreography by TJ Marchbank. Stage manager is Emily Goodall.

Andronicus will play one preview performance on Friday, July 11 at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, July 12 at 8pm. The regular running schedule is as follows — Fridays, July 18, 25 and August 1, 8, and 15 at 8pm; Saturdays, July 26 and August 9 at 8pm; Sundays, July 20 and August 3 and 17 at 7pm through August 17. The Yellow BoatCoeurage Theatre Company (Jeremy Lelliott, Artistic Director; Nicole Monet, Managing Director), LA’s ‘Pay What You Want’ Company, has announced Art in the Park, a special event for kids and families on Saturday, May 17 at 6pm prior to the 8:00 curtain for that evening’s performance. Art in the Park is being held in conjunction with the critically acclaimed Coeurage production of David Saar’s The Yellow Boat. Directed by Joseph V. Calarco, the play’s engagement runs through Saturday, May 25 only.

Kids and families are invited to join Coeurage company members to explore their creative sides. Right outside the doors of the GTC Burbank Theatre there will be crayons, watercolors, markers, and other art supplies. Participants who choose to draw or paint red, blue, or yellow boats (themes of the play) will be asked to display their creations in the theatre lobby. All will join in the creation of a paper banner which Coeurage will present to the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California in celebration of their partnership on this production of The Yellow Boat.

Art in the Park activities will be Hemophilia safe, arranged to avoid the possibility of bruising and cuts. Since 1954, the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California has been providing quality programs and services to individuals affected by Hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. Currently, HFSC offers assistance in many areas such as medic alert sponsorship, emergency financial aid, individual and family counseling, case management, seminars and advocacy, as well as many youth-focused programs. Based on the true story of David and Sonja Saar’s son Benjamin, The Yellow Boat is a glorious affirmation of a child’s life and the strength and courage of all children. The play celebrates the value of living life fully and richly in the moment, and with playfulness and creativity explores real people overcoming very real fears. The show is recommended for kids over age eight, parents, and families.

Of the production, Jason Rohrer at StageAndCinema.com said, “Coeurage is their name, and coeurage is in their hearts. [This show] talks up to its audiences, and it illustrates why theatre exists in the first place.”

Coeurage will also host a Hemophilia Day Carnival on May 17 prior to that evening’s performance. (More details on the Carnival will be announced at a later date.) Written by David Saar and directed by Joseph V. Calarco, The Yellow Boat will play one preview performance on Friday, April 18 at 8pm and opens on Saturday, April 19 at 8pm at GTC Burbank.

On May 11 (Mother’s Day), a portion of the box office will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. More than 90% of HIV infections in children result from mother-to-child transmission. Today, just as when EGPAF was founded in 1988, children are the forgotten face of HIV/AIDS. Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is dedicated to preventing pediatric HIV infection and eliminating pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs.
