Miss Barbie QNow that it is legal for gays to get married, Miss Barbie Q is elated! Or is she? As she ponders the joys of marriage, she begins to wonder if she has what it takes to even be proposed to, let alone marriage. Follow her on her journey as she dives into what makes a marriage and what factors she possesses. Rumor Has It I’m Not The Marrying Kind … comes to the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival for one performance only on Friday, June 26 at 8pm, and admission is free. Running time is one hour.

Miss Barbie Q (transformer/writer/entertainer) was voted one of 2011’s Hot 25 (Frontiers LA) and 2012’s Best Downtown Personality by WehoConfidential.com. She can be heard Mondays at 7pm on the LGBTQI newsmagazine IMRU on public radio 90.7 KPFK. Recently Miss Barbie Q appeared in the music video “Girl Gotta Gun” by the German based band Tokio Motel, worked on the Amazon hit “Transparent,” appeared in the TV pilot “The Call,” and in the talk show pilot “1 Gay, 5 Queens.” She has worked with Lady Gaga, Margaret Cho, Kristina Wong, Zachary Drucker, Rhys Ernst, Jonny McGovern, Phyllis Navidad, Shokra, Wendy Ho, Critter Control, Mario Diaz, Peter Zias, Jose Promis, Jackie Beat, Raja, Venus Delite, Shangela, Kelly Mantle, Austin Young, Tammie Brown, Purple Crush, DJ Josh Peace, DJ Sol, Busdriver, and Jack Plotnick. Television credits include the drama “Get Thee Behind Me,” a segment on Tosh.0, and an episode of “The Cho Show.” Film credits include “Bruno and Earlene Go To Vegas,” “Leave It on the Floor,” and “Hollywood Ja’Taime.” Miss Barbie Q’s first solo show Rumor Has It… premiered as part of the 2013 Highways Behold Series and One City One Pride: West Hollywood Queer Arts Festival. Following the premiere of Rumor Has It I’m Not The Marrying Kind …, Miss Barbie Q will continue working on music, directing, writing, performances, vocals, and looking to develop and produce more performance art from her personal experiences.

This event (produced by Casey Kringlen/Queer Classics) is presented as part of the City of West Hollywood’s One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival which this year celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Cityhood with the theme ‘WeHo@30, Life@30.’ Events take place from Harvey Milk Day, May 22, to the end of June with a special full day of theatre in Plummer Park on June 27. The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an annual, open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. Each June during the Hollywood Fringe, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: fully equipped theatres, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants, and other unexpected places host hundreds of productions by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers.

The Kinsey Sicks 2015The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center has announced the one night only appearance of The Kinsey Sicks: America’s Next Top Bachelor Housewife Celebrity Hoarder Makeover Star Gone Wild! at the Renberg Theatre on Wednesday, June 10 at 8pm. The quartet described by the Washington Post as, “uproarious … brilliant … authentically joyful” will kick off LA’s 2015 Pride Season.

From their beginnings singing on street corners in San Francisco to performing Off-Broadway, in Las Vegas, in two feature films, in more than 40 states, in Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia, and on eight albums, The Kinsey Sicks have established a devoted international following. For more than 20 years the award-winning a cappella drag quartet has served up a feast of music and comedy to audiences at performing arts centers, music venues, and comedy festivals in every kind of town imaginable with shows such as Sicks Appeal, The Balled Sopranos, Everything But the Kitsch ‘n’ Synch, GreatesTits, Oy Vey in a Manger, and Electile Dysfunction.

The Boyz Behind The Girlz: Kinsey Sicks member Ben Schatz (“Rachel”) is a Harvard-trained civil rights lawyer, former Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, and one-time presidential advisor on HIV issues. Schatz created the first national AIDS legal project and authored President Clinton’s HIV policy during the 1992 presidential campaign. Actor/singer/designer Jeff Manabat is responsible for Trixie’s inordinate glamour and soaring counter-tenor, as well as the entire group’s hot couture. The hilarious and talented Spencer Brown (“Trampolina”) is a Kansas City-based actor and singer already known for his famous drag character Daisy Buckët (pronounced, of course, “bouquet”), who has worked tirelessly to help raise tens of thousands of dollars at local AIDS fundraisers. The newest member of the group, the comedically and musically gifted Nathan Marken (“Winnie”), hails from The Kinsey Sicks hometown of San Francisco.

VDAY 2015A who’s who of film and television stars will perform Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues in an intimate theatrical setting for four benefit performances only, May 22 & 29 and June 5 & 13 at 8pm, at the Atwater Village Theatre in Los Angeles. Produced and directed by Sheena Metal for Ensemble Studio Theatre Los Angeles, all proceeds will benefit V-Day (vday.org), A Global Movement to End Violence Against Women and Girls, and protect.org, a national pro-child, anti-crime association committed to building a powerful, nonpartisan force for the protection of children from abuse, exploitation and neglect.

“It is exciting to work with so many great actresses, all of whom are graciously donating their time and talents,” said Metal, whose popular LATalkRadio show, The Sheena Metal Experience (M-F, 5-7pm) is only one of four programs she hosts on LATR each week. “I salute every artist, onstage and off, that is contributing to this special presentation of The Vagina Monologues.”

Each evening will feature a different group of performers. Among the long list of luminous actors are (in alphabetical order) Alison Arngrim, Martha Byrne, Cherie Currie, Frances Fisher, Carolyn Hennesy, Kate Linder, Sandy Martin, Lee Meriwether, Jenny O’Hara, Susan Olsen, Alexandra Paul, Joan Van Ark, and Debra Wilson. All appearances are subject to availability.

To date, the V-Day movement, founded by playwright/actress Eve Ensler, has raised over $75 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it. In 2006, the V-Day movement was named one of Marie Claire Magazine’s Top Ten Charities, and in 2010, over 5400 V-Day benefit events took place produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls. In more than a dozen years, the V-Day movement has reached over 300 million people.
These special performances of The Vagina Monologues are on Fridays, May 22 & 29 and Fridays, June 5 & 13, at 8pm. Tickets are $25, and may be purchased online at www.vdaylosangeles.com. The Atwater Village Theatre Speakeasy is located at 3269 Casitas Avenue, in Los Angeles.
