2008 Ovation AwardsMore information at http://www.2008ovationawards.com/

The LA Stage Alliance Ovation Awards celebrates the 168 theatre companies, 390 registered productions, and over 2,000 individual artists who participated in the September 1, 2007 to August 31, 2008 season.

The Ovation Awards is unique in that it is a peer judged competition.

The voting pool for the program consists entirely of theatre professionals currently working in the Los Angeles theatre community (190 voters participating in the 2007/2008 Ovation season).

The Artistic Director of any LA Stage Alliance member theatre that has been producing for at least three years is automatically invited to participate in the program as a voter. In addition, any theatre professional can apply to the Ovation Review Committee to be considered for the voting pool.

The Ovation Review Committee (ORC) is made up of theatre professionals approved by the LA Stage Alliance Board to oversee all the rules and regulations for the Ovation Awards. Ovation voters go to a mandatory training session, sign a code of conduct, and commit to seeing a minimum of 25 productions during the course of the Ovation season (20 of the 25 must be in theatres with 99 seats or fewer).

The Ovation season runs from September 1 to August 31 each year.

Voters cast their votes online, rating the show on a scale of 0.1 to 10.0 in all the categories in which the production is eligible.

Votes are seen only by those who cast them and the tabulators who determine the nominees each September.

Voters choose from a list of eligible productions, but are also assigned a certain percentage of shows to attend.

At the end of the season any eligible production with 12 or more complete ballots cast becomes eligible for nomination.

Scores are averaged together and the productions or artists with the highest scores in each category become the nominees and/or recipients of the Ovation Awards.

The Ovation Awards tabulators, NSBN Certified Public Accountants and Business Consultants LLC, thoroughly evaluate the system and the nominee list each September before it is made public at the Ovation Awards Nominee Announcement.
