Coeurage Theatre Company, LA’s Pay What You Want Company, has announced the final production of its 2015 season, the West Coast premiere of The Sparrow by Chris Mathews, Jake Minton, and Nathan Allen. Directed by Joseph V. Calarco, there will be one preview performance on October 23 at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, October 24 at 8pm. The Sparrow will play through November 21 at the Historic Lankershim Arts Center.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) David Crane, Audrey Flegel, Katelyn Gault, Joel Gelman, Nardeep Khurmi, Jane Lui, John McKetta, Jeffrey Nichols, Katie Pelensky, Lillian Solange, Danni Spring, Cyrus Wilcox, and Malika Williams. Scenic design is by Kristin Browning Campbell, lighting design is by Benoît Guérin, costume design is by Rebecca Guzzi, and sound design is by Joseph V. Calarco. Choreography is by Tasheena Medina, fight choreography is by TJ Marchbank, and original music is by Gregory Nabours. The stage manager is Emily Goodall.

In The Sparrow, a small-town girl returns home 10 years after a tragic accident that claimed the lives of her entire class. As the town struggles to move on from the loss and accept her, she must hide the special powers that make her different and come to terms with her past. The Chicago Sun-Times called The Sparrow, “A three-dimensional graphic novel about the passion of family and community life, the importance of myth, and the pain of exile.”

There will be one preview performance on Friday, October 23 at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, October 24 at 8pm. The regular running schedule is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8pm through November 21. Producer Jason Goldberg today announced the world premiere of Karma, The Awakening, a new musical with book and lyrics by Billie E. Hazelbaker, Bryan N. Barnes, and Jeffrey Rollins and music by Ronn Price, Dan Green, and Barnes. With musical direction by Jerry Danielsen, choreography by Lennon Hobson, and directed by Jason Goldberg, Karma, The Awakening will open on Thursday, February 5 at 8pm and play a strictly limited engagement through March 1.

A generation ago the ‘Dawning of the Age of Aquarius’ proclaimed a season of “harmony and understanding, sympathy, and trust abounding.” We are living in that age and Karma, The Awakening revives the dormant energy of that season. Be reawakened by that energy and witness the Wedding of the Ages—the marriage of science and spirituality. You will be born again and again—and again.
The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Roslyn Cohn, Adam Fox, Katelyn Gault, Alena Henke, Aidan Johnson, Stephen Juhl, Jackson Kendall, PeterMcGlynn, Braddon Mendelson, Bob Moran, Madison Smith, Beth Ann Sweezer, and Jenny Torgerson. All design elements are being coordinated by Jason Goldberg and Jeremiah Whitman. The stage manager is Lyndsay Lucas.

Karma, The Awakening opens on Thursday, February 5 at 8pm and continues through Sunday, March 1 only. The regular performance schedule will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. Coeurage Theatre Company (Jeremy Lelliott, Artistic Director; Nicole Monet, Managing Director), LA’s ‘Pay What You Want’ Company, has announced Art in the Park, a special event for kids and families on Saturday, May 17 at 6pm prior to the 8:00 curtain for that evening’s performance. Art in the Park is being held in conjunction with the critically acclaimed Coeurage production of David Saar’s The Yellow Boat. Directed by Joseph V. Calarco, the play’s engagement runs through Saturday, May 25 only.

Kids and families are invited to join Coeurage company members to explore their creative sides. Right outside the doors of the GTC Burbank Theatre there will be crayons, watercolors, markers, and other art supplies. Participants who choose to draw or paint red, blue, or yellow boats (themes of the play) will be asked to display their creations in the theatre lobby. All will join in the creation of a paper banner which Coeurage will present to the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California in celebration of their partnership on this production of The Yellow Boat.

Art in the Park activities will be Hemophilia safe, arranged to avoid the possibility of bruising and cuts. Since 1954, the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California has been providing quality programs and services to individuals affected by Hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. Currently, HFSC offers assistance in many areas such as medic alert sponsorship, emergency financial aid, individual and family counseling, case management, seminars and advocacy, as well as many youth-focused programs. Based on the true story of David and Sonja Saar’s son Benjamin, The Yellow Boat is a glorious affirmation of a child’s life and the strength and courage of all children. The play celebrates the value of living life fully and richly in the moment, and with playfulness and creativity explores real people overcoming very real fears. The show is recommended for kids over age eight, parents, and families.

Of the production, Jason Rohrer at StageAndCinema.com said, “Coeurage is their name, and coeurage is in their hearts. [This show] talks up to its audiences, and it illustrates why theatre exists in the first place.”

in attending theatre. Each patron decides what a theatre experience is worth to him or her,
