Coeurage Theatre Company, LA’s ‘Pay What You Want’ Company, has announced the second production of its 2015 season, The Woodsman by Steven Fechter, directed by Jeremy Lelliott. There will be two preview performances on Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7 at 8pm and opening will be split between Friday, May 8 at 8pm and Saturday, May 9 at 8pm. The Woodsman will play through June 13 at the Lyric-Hyperion Theatre & Cafe in Silver Lake.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Venny Caranza, Tim Cummings, Julianne Donelle, Mark Jacobson, Nardeep Khurmi, John Klopping, Gregor Manns, Katie Pelensky, Cesar Ramos, Christopher Salazar, Erin Sanzo, and Joey Nicole Thomas. Scenic design is by Sammi Smith, lighting design is by Michael Kozachenko, costume design is by Heather Korn, sound design is by Joseph V. Calarco, and the movement coach is Donna Eshelman. The stage manager is Emily Goodall.

Having just been released from prison after 12 years for molesting young girls, Walter is determined to find a ‘cure’ for his disease. In order to keep his desires from turning back into damaging behavior he must face down his demons once and for all. Having isolated himself from his loved ones, Walter relies on unexpected sources to help him move on with his life.

Playwright Steven Fechter’s theatrical works have been produced throughout North America and Europe. He co-wrote the screenplay for the 2004 film version of The Woodsman starring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick and was nominated for the Humanitas Prize in screenwriting. Fechter’s other plays include The Land-Surveyor, The Commission, The Golden Aurora, The Artifacts, The Mentee, Lancelot, and Shakespeare’s Slave. He is a member of EST Playwrights Unit, Resonance Ensemble, Oberon Theatre Ensemble, and the Dramatists Guild.

The Woodsman will play two preview performances on Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7 at 8pm and opening will be split between Friday, May 8 at 8pm and Saturday, May 9 at 8pm. Coeurage Theatre Company, LA’s ‘Pay What You Want’ Company, has announced the second production of its 2014  season, Andronicus, adapted and directed by Coeurage artistic director Jeremy Lelliott. There will be one preview performance on Friday, July 11 at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, July 12 at 8pm. Andronicus will play through August 17 at Coeurage’s new home, the Lyric-Hyperion Theatre & Cafe in Silver Lake.

Deliciously twisted humor gives way to unexpected poignancy in this bold take on William Shakespeare’s original horror play The Lamentable Tragedy of Titus Andronicus. Reveling in the darkest corners of human nature, Andronicus is a streamlined adaptation of Shakespeare’s most violent play; the bard’s masterful dramatic structure and brutal tale of revenge have been carefully preserved.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Brian Abraham, Anthony Mark Barrow, Ted Barton, Gabriel Di Chiara, Kaitlyn Gault, Doug Harvey, Mark Jacobson, Zach Kanner, John Klopping, Nardeep Khurmi, TJ Marchbank, John McKetta, Katie Pelensky,Paul Romero, Chris Salazar, and Rebekah Tripp.

Coeurage Theatre Company, LA’s ‘Pay What You Want’ Company, has announced their next production, A Bright Room Called Day by Tony Kushner, directed by Coeurage Artistic Director Jeremy Lelliott. There will be two preview performances on Thursday, August 15 and Friday, August 16 at 8pm, and opening is set for Saturday, August 17 at 8pm. A Bright Room Called Day will play through September 15 only at The Lost Studio on S. La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles.

In A Bright Room Called Day, Pulitzer, Tony and Emmy Award-winning writer Tony Kushner examines Berlin’s reaction to the rise of Hitler in 1932. Through its provocative, fantastical and audacious look at history, Kushner’s incendiary play challenges not just the German culture at the time, but the status quo of here and now. Originally produced in 1985, this new production combines the lyricism of Kushner’s words with an eclectic soundtrack and choreography.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Erin Anderson, Laura Crow, Mark Jacobson, Graham Kurtz, Nicole Monet, Teya Patt, Bert Rotundo, and Miles Warner. The production design is by Tito Ladd, costume design is by Cole Clemens, and sound design is by Joe Calarco. The stage manager is Megan Laughlin.

Tony Kushner’s best known work is Angels in America (a play in two parts: Millennium Approaches and Perestroika), a seven-hour epic about the AIDS epidemic in Reagan-era New York, which was later adapted into an HBO miniseries for which Kushner wrote the screenplay and won an Emmy Award. His other plays include Hydriotaphia, Slavs!, Homebody/Kabul, and the book for the musical Caroline, or Change. In the early 2000s, Kushner began writing for film. He co-wrote the screenplay for Munich in 2005 and in January 2006, a documentary feature about Kushner entitled Wrestling With Angels debuted at Sundance. In 2011, he wrote the screenplay for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and was nominated for an Academy Award. His most recent work for the stage, The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures, was first produced in 2009.
