Announcing: Player King Productions Presents World Premiere of “Coronado” by Dennis Lehane

PLAYER KING PRODUCTIONS
ANNOUNCES LOS ANGELES PREMIERE OF CORONADO
BY ACCLAIMED MYSTERY WRITER DENNIS LEHANE

BEGINS MARCH 4
AT THE HOLDING COMPANY IN SILVERLAKE
FOR 12 PERFORMANCES ONLY

Coronado posterPlayer King Productions has announced the Los Angeles premiere of Coronado by acclaimed mystery writer Dennis Lehane, directed by Drew Shirley, for 12 performances only beginning Sunday, March 4 and running through March 27. Opening night is Monday, March 5 at 8:00, at The Holding Company in Silverlake.

Coronado is the only play written by mystery writer Dennis Lehane (perhaps best known for the screenplays for Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, and Shutter Island). It is a modern-day Greek tragedy which follows three intertwining tales: a recently freed inmate and his father waging a lethal battle of wits while searching for a missing woman and a stolen diamond; a psychiatrist and his patient having an illicit affair; and a woman and her lover plotting the murder of the woman’s husband. Set in a southwestern American town, Coronado is a thriller exploring the dark side of the human spirit and what one is willing to do for love, money and redemption.

Originally from Kansas City, Kansas, director Drew Shirley’s most recent credits include the Los Angeles Theatre Ensemble’s much acclaimed production of Comedy of Errors at the Powerhouse Theatre in Santa Monica, as well as an independent production of The Tempest that opened on Theatre Row earlier this year. The cast of Coronado will feature (in alphabetical order) Cy Brown, Sam Dahl, Hannah Hines, Brahm Gallagher, Gina Lohman, Amelia Jane Murphy, Alex Oliver, Shawn Parsons, David Preston, Emily Elizabeth, and Mark Schroeder. The scenic design is by Alex Choate, the lighting and projection design is by Matt Richter, costume design is by Adriana Lambarri, and sound design is by Patrick Janssen. Sarah Harburg-Petrich is the stage manager, and Ty Mayberry produces for Player King Productions.

Player King Productions is dedicated to honoring the art of theatre by challenging its very nature. Breaking down boundaries between audiences and the action, and performing in unconventional spaces, Player King hopes to develop a new generation of vested theatregoers.

Coronado will play one lower-priced preview performance on Sunday, March 4 at 8pm, and opening night is set for Monday, March 5 at 8:00. The regular performance schedule is Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at 8pm through March 27 only. Ticket prices (all general admission) are $15 for the preview, and $20 for opening night and all regular performances. PLAYER KING PRODUCTIONS
ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL PRODUCTION

HAMLET BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
OPENS MONDAY, APRIL 18
AT GALLERY 1018 FOR 12 PERFORMANCES ONLY

Player King Productions, LA’s newest theatre company, has announced its inaugural production, Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Directed by Ty Mayberry, Hamlet will play one preview performance on Sunday, April 17 and is set to open at Gallery 1018 downtown on Monday, April 18 at 7:30pm. The engagement will run through Tuesday, May 10 only.

A classic play set in modern times, Hamlet explores the struggle to find truth in a world of ambiguity and deception. Instructed to avenge his father’s death, the Danish Prince is soon consumed by his insecurities, and ultimately risks the fate of his family. This engaging production, performed in a non-traditional art gallery space, will allow audience members to hear the words of the play like never before. Hamlet is the most widely produced Shakespearean play. In spite of the nearly 400 years that have passed since it was first staged, Hamlet continues to intrigue and attract theatrical and literary audiences everywhere.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Samuel Dahl, Matt Freitas, Joshua Gray, Matthew Harris, Gina Lohman, Ken MacFarlane, TJ Marchbank, Joe Massingill, Angela Nicholas, Alexandra Oliver, Curtis Rainsberry, Jonathan Salisbury, and Jennings Turner. The set and lighting designs are by Danny Cistone, and the costume design is by Dori Quan. Alexandra Oliver is the production stage manager.

Player King Productions is dedicated to bringing the “play” back to the theatre. It has been said, “We don’t stop playing because we grow older, we grow older because we stop playing.” Player King Productions aims to remind people of the days of play, when we let ourselves be guided by pure imagination and nothing else. PKP is committed to bringing the life back to theatre, and the theatre back to life.

Located in the center of the downtown Los Angeles Art District, Gallery 1018, a converted industrial warehouse, is an extreme departure from a traditional theatre space. The gallery maintains its historic and gritty urban character while being completely retrofitted with facilities and amenities for a completely comfortable guest experience, along with all lighting and sound requirements for theatrical production. Seating will be in an intimate, modified round, with action taking place 360 degrees around each audience member.
