Revelation posterThe critically acclaimed, award-winning Elephant Theatre Company continues its 17th season with the world premiere of Revelation by Samuel Brett Williams, directed by Elephant Co-Artistic Director Lindsay Allbaugh. Preview performances begin Tuesday, July 16, and opening is set for Friday, July 19 at 8pm. Revelation will run through August 25.

Revelation is an irreverent comedy that tells the tale of Brandon, whose father always taught him to be prepared for the Rapture. When people begin disappearing and the Hudson River turns to blood, Brandon convinces his atheist friend Rebecca to flee from New York to Arkansas in a quest to find the New Jerusalem. Faith, love, and the American landscape are all up for grabs in this pitch black comedy about the End of Days.

The cast of Revelation will feature (in alphabetical order) Zibby Allen, Ben Belack, Micah Cohen, Lawrence Dillard, Jennifer Etienne Eckert, Carolina Espiro, Tony Gatto, Larvell Hood, John Charles Meyer, Marco Naggar, Patrick Pankhurst, and Chloe Peterson. The design team includes Jeffery Eisenmann (set), Matt Richter (lighting), Michael Mullen (costumes), Corwin Evans (projections), and Peter Bayne (sound design and original music). Revelation is produced for the Elephant by David Fofi, Cheryl Huggins, Tara Norris, and Danielle Ozymandias.

Playwright Samuel Brett Williams is a winner of the Helen Merrill Emerging Playwright Award. His other plays include The Revival, The Woodpecker, and Derby Day. Williams’ plays have been developed and/or produced in such prestigious venues as the Eugene O’Neill Playwrights Conference, New York Theatre Workshop, Naked Angels, The Kennedy Center, Yale University, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and more.

There will be three lower-priced preview performances of Revelation on Tuesday, July 16, Wednesday, July 17, and Thursday, July 18 at 8pm, and opening is Friday, July 19 at 8pm. The regular running schedule is Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm, through August 25 only. Tickets for previews are $15, regular performances are $25, and opening night tickets are $35 (which include a post-performance reception with the cast). Also, there will be an added ‘Play Care’ performance on Saturday, August 17 at 2pm, at which parents can bring their kids, who will be looked after by experienced child caregivers (at no extra charge), while the parents watch the show.

The Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 13, beginning at 6pm. All proceeds will benefit the current 2013 season of the critically acclaimed company.

Poker Royale will be a star-studded night of Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, Blackjack, prizes, food, drink, and surprise celebrity guests. The tournament will be a World Series of Poker style event, coordinated by West LA Poker, and valuable prizes for the top nine finishers include gift cards valued at hundreds of dollars, tickets to various shows and sporting events, restaurant gift cards, and much more. Food at the event will be provided by Big Wangs with cocktails by Karma Tequila.

The doors for Poker Royale will open at 6pm on Saturday, July 13. Poker lessons begin at 6:30pm, and the tournament starts promptly at 7pm. (Players can enter the tournament up to 8pm.) Tickets are $80 prior to July 6 ($100 thereafter), which includes poker tournament entry and unlimited food and drink. Spectator tickets are $25 before July 6 ($30 thereafter), which include Fun-Play Blackjack and ways to win great prizes, along with food and drink. The Elephant Theatre Company is a staple of the Los Angeles theatre community. Known for developing and producing new work, the company was named three years in a row by Back Stage as ‘Favorite Theatre Company to See and Work With,’ as well as receiving multiple Ovation, LADCC, and LA Weekly Award nominations and wins. Having just closed a very successful run of the LA premiere of The North Plan by Jason Wells, the company will next be producing the world premiere of Samuel Brett Williams’ dark comedy Revelation, set to open July 19. The 2011 West Coast premiere of Kate Fodor’s 100 Saints You Should Know was nominated for four LA Weekly Awards, winning Best Supporting Female Performance (Kate Huffman), and the show was also nominated for an LADCC Award. The Elephant concluded its very successful 15th season in December 2011, with the world premiere play Love Sick by Kristina Poe, and the rarely produced Baby Doll by Tennessee Williams, both of which had extended, sold-out runs.

The North PlanThe critically acclaimed, award-winning Elephant Theatre Company continues its 17th season with the Los Angeles premiere of The North Plan by Jason Wells, directed by Elephant Co-Artistic Director David Fofi. Preview performances begin Wednesday, April 24, and opening night is set for Saturday, April 27. The North Plan will run through June 1.

When a ruthless splinter group seizes power in Washington, a bureaucrat for the State Department runs off with the new regime’s top-secret Enemies List. With Department of Homeland Security agents trailing him, he finds himself trapped in a police station in a small Missouri town. His last hope for survival is in the people around him: an unsympathetic police chief, an ambivalent administrative assistant, and a fellow prisoner ­ a motor-mouthed local who’s turned herself in for drunk driving. The North Plan is a sharp, dark, dystopian comedy set in the here and now.

Playwright Jason Wells is a winner of the M. Elizabeth Osborn Award, and a finalist for the Harold and Mimi Steinberg/New Play Award, both from the American Theatre Critics Association. His other plays include Men of Tortuga and Perfect MendacityThe North Plan debuted at Steppenwolf’s First Look in Chicago in 2010, and had its official world premiere at Portland Center Stage in Oregon. Of the play, the Chicago Tribune said, “A black and darkly entertaining comedy … fun, smart, involving, and just disturbing enough for a Saturday night on the town.”

The cast of The North Plan will feature (in alphabetical order) Kerry Carney, John Forest, Chris Game, Gregory Hoyt, Dominic Rains, Stan Roth, Bernadette Speakes, and Salvator Xuereb. The design team includes Joel Daavid (set), Matt Richter (lighting and sound), and Michael Mullen (costumes). Rebecca Schoenberg is the production stage manager, and Lindsay Allbaugh serves as producer.

There will be three lower-priced preview performances of The North Plan on Wednesday, April 24, Thursday, April 25, and Friday, April 26 at 8pm, and opening is Saturday, April 27 at 8pm. The regular running schedule is Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, through June 1 only. Tickets for previews are $20, regular performances are $25, and opening night tickets are $35 (which include a post-performance reception with the cast). The Thursday, May 2 performance will be ‘Pay What You Can.’ Also, there will be an added ‘Play Care’ performance on Saturday, May 25 at 2pm, at which parents can bring their kids, who will be looked after by experienced child caregivers (at no extra charge), while the parents watch the show.
