Kristin Towers-RowlesFollowing sold-out performances in Los Angeles and Palm Springs, stage star Kristin Towers-Rowles will bring her critically acclaimed cabaret show, A Lovely Lineage, to the El Portal Theatre’s Monroe Forum in North Hollywood. With musical direction by Katie Clark and directed by Ovation Award-winner Cate Caplin, there will be one performance only on Sunday, October 18 at 7pm.

A Lovely Lineage captures the historic Broadway and Hollywood lineage of Kristin Towers-Rowles, starting with her grandmother, the legendary Kathryn Grayson. Ms. Grayson was an MGM darling and a Hollywood pioneer having starred in some of the most beloved movie musicals of the 1950s including Kiss Me, Kate and Show Boat. The lineage does not stop there — Kristin’s grandfather was the dashing and talented Broadway leading man Johnnie Johnston; her mother, Patricia Towers, was a Las Vegas headliner; and her father is the prolific character actor Robert Towers. In A Lovely Lineage, Kristin celebrates her incredible family legacy by performing musical numbers from such beloved Broadway musicals as Follies, Wicked, She Loves Me, and Kiss Me, Kate, to name only a few. Opera and musical theatre singer Jahmal Bakare joins Kristin on stage for several numbers.

Putting it TogetherChromolume Theatre has announced its final production of 2014, Stephen Sondheim’s Putting It Together, opening on Friday, November 14 at 8pm. Devised by Sondheim and Julie McKenzie with music and lyrics by Sondheim and musical direction by Richard Berent, Putting It Together will be directed and choreographed by Ovation Award-winner Cate Caplin. The show will play a strictly limited engagement through December 21 only.

Putting It Together is a musical revue showcasing the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning songs of Stephen Sondheim. Celebrating Sondheim‘s incomparable career in musical theatre and featuring nearly 30 songs, the show takes place at a Hollywood movie premiere party in the home of the producer/director and his trophy wife leading lady. A composer and his date, a wanna-be starlet, along with an up-and-coming screenwriter, spend the evening reflecting on the illusions and desires of relationships intertwined amidst life “in the biz” in Hollywood.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Kurt Hansen, Rachel Hirshee, Mike Irizarry, Chris Kerrigan, and Kristin Towers-Rowles. Scenic and sound design are by James Esposito, lighting design is by Luc Hediger, and costume design is by Ovation Award-winner Michael Mullen. The stage manager is Lauren J. Peters.

Putting It Together opens on Friday, November 14 at 8pm. The regular performance schedule is Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm through December 21. 2012 Ovation AwardsThe announcement of the 2012 LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award nominees has been set for Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 pm. The event will be hosted by the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Renberg Theatre, located within the Village at Ed Gould Plaza at 1125 N. McCadden Place in Los Angeles, 90038.

This year’s Ovation Awards ceremony will take place on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 7:30pm at the historic Los Angeles Theatre, 615 South Broadway, in downtown Los Angeles.

On September 11, various 2011 Ovation Award recipients will announce the names of this year’s nominees. Scheduled to participate are Beth Kennedy (Featured Actress in a Musical), Matt Walker (Featured Actor in and Director of a Musical), Oanh Nguyen (Best Production of a Musical, Intimate), John Flynn (Best Production of a Play, Intimate), Henry Dittman (Featured Actor in a Play), Cate Caplin (Choreography), Brian Danner (Fight Choreography), and Paul Litteral (Music Direction). These winners from last year will be joined by Terence McFarland, Chief Executive Officer of LA Stage Alliance.

The LA Stage Alliance Ovation Awards are the only peer-judged theatre awards in Los Angeles. Voters are Los Angeles theatre professionals who are chosen each year, through an application process, by the Ovation Awards Rules Committee. The list of nominees is determined by a tabulation of scores conducted by Green Hasson Janks.

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center provides a broad array of services for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, welcoming nearly a quarter-million client visits from ethnically diverse youth and adults each year. Through its Jeffrey Goodman Special Care Clinic and on-site pharmacy, the Center offers free and low-cost health, mental health, HIV/AIDS medical care and HIV/STD testing and prevention.
