LOVE, ALL WAYS

AT CATALINA BAR & GRILL IN HOLLYWOOD
TWO SHOWS ONLY
JANUARY 27 & 28 AT 8:30PM

Rogelio Douglas JrChris Isaacson Presents and Upright Cabaret have announced that Rogelio Douglas, Jr. will join native Angeleno and Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez for Love, All Ways, her Los Angeles solo concert debut. There will be two shows only on Tuesday, January 27, and Wednesday, January 28, at 8:30pm at the Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood.

Rogelio Douglas, Jr. is truly a quadruple threat — he acts, sings, writes songs, and dances. On Broadway, Douglas has been seen in In the Heights, The Little Mermaid, and Riverdance: The Show. His film credits include the much lauded Whiplash as well as Superfast! (to be released later this year), and television work includes appearances on Orange Is The New Black and Parks and Recreation. In August of last year Douglas appeared at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Broadway Under the Stars alongside fellow Broadway belters Erich Bergen, Danny Gurwin, Chad Kimball, and the legendary Jennifer Holliday.

A native of the Santa Clarita Valley, Mandy Gonzalez possesses one of the most powerful and versatile contemporary voices on Broadway. She made her Broadway debut in Dance of the Vampires and is perhaps best known for her emotional portrayal of Nina Rosario in the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights, a role she created Off Broadway at 37 Arts. She starred as Elphaba in Wicked and Princess Amneris in Aida and played multiple roles (including John Lennon) in Lennon. Gonzalez received overwhelming critical praise and an Obie Award for her performance Off Broadway in Eli’s Comin’, a show based on the music and lyrics of Laura Nyro. Film credits include Across the Universe, After, and Man on a Ledge, and on television she has been seen on White Collar, The Good Wife, 666 Park Avenue, Third Watch, and One Life to Live.

Mandy Gonzalez’s Los Angeles solo concert debut, entitled Love, All Ways, was originally conceived as a tribute to her parents, a Mexican migrant worker and a Jewish girl from the Valley who met as pen pals during the Viet Nam War. Gonzalez’s dad, who didn’t learn to speak English until age six, would sign his letters to Gonzalez’s mom, “Love Allways.” He still spells it that way.

Mandy Gonzalez: Love, All Ways (which, along with Rogelio Douglas, Jr., will feature a special appearance by some of the Santa Clarita Valley’s top high school singers) will play two performances only at the Catalina Bar & Grill, 6725 W. Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood on Tuesday, January 27, and Wednesday, January 28, at 8:30pm. Doors open at 7pm for cocktail and dinner service (single entrée or drink minimums apply). Admission is $25, with VIP seating ($40) available, and online purchases receive priority seating. Tickets may be obtained online at www.TicketWeb.com or by phone at (866) 468-3399.

Broadway STARS!

The lights of Broadway will be shining brightly at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood on Saturday, August 16 as legendary Tony Award-winner Jennifer Holliday headlines, and she will be joined by Erich Bergen (Jersey Boys), Rogelio Douglas, Jr., (In the Heights), Danny Gurwin (Little Women), and Chad Kimball (Tony Award nominee for Memphis). And if all of that isn’t enough, yet another Tony Award nominee (also for Dreamgirls), Obba Babatundé, has been set as host for Broadway Under the Stars 2014!

Jennifer Holliday possesses one of Broadway’s greatest voices. Her immeasurable range and artistry have long stood in a class by themselves. She won her Tony Award in 1982 for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her history-making portrayal of Effie Melody White in Dreamgirls. I remember seeing the show during its pre-Broadway tryout in Boston in 1981 and being left speechless. And I’ve always gotten a kick out of the fact that Dreamgirls opened on Broadway on my birthday (December 20) in 1981.

Broadway Under the Stars will feature songs from some of the most beloved musicals of our time, including Cabaret, Jersey Boys, Pippin, The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Les Misérables, and Wicked, along with new favorites from the 2013-14 season, including Aladdin, Rocky, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Who says you have to be in New York to experience the thrill of Broadway?

Broadway Under the Stars takes place Saturday, August 16 at John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, located at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd East.
