The Animal WithinThe All Roses Company has announced the world premiere production of The Animal Within, a new comedy by Ralph Tropf, directed by Lynn Stevenson, with one preview performance on Friday, November 11, and opening night set for Saturday, November 12 at 8:00. The limited engagement will run through January 15, 2012.  No performances are scheduled December 19 through January 5.

This sexy new comedy tells the tale of wealthy socialite Sylvia Argus, who hires a sexy young girl as a live in housekeeper. As Melody gushes about living at Sylvia’s elegant house on the beach, her youth and enthusiasm awaken Sylvia’s long-repressed attraction to women. Sylvia’s husband, Dr. Robert Argus, arrives home surprised to find an attractive young woman having moved into his house, and fears that having Melody there will disrupt his marriage. Sylvia insists that Melody stay, and that’s all it takes to bring out The Animal Within.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Nathan Bouldin, Carrie Madsen, and Howland Wilson. The scenic design is by Staci Walters, lighting design is by Paige Selene Luke, and costume design is by Lori Lee Gordon. Kevin Story serves as stage manager. The Animal Within is a guest production at the Elephant Space.

Playwright Ralph Tropf’s play Shadow Hour was produced in Los Angeles in 1998, and it was subsequently published by Samuel French. Tropf’s screenplay The Orchid and the Cross was a semi-finalist for a Nicholl Fellowship, and he wrote for Fox Television’s World’s Wildest Police Videos. For more, visit www.ralphtropf.com.

Director Lynn Stevenson has directed for many LA theatre companies, including Theatre Neo, West Coast Ensemble, Company of Angels, and Sacred Fools, most recently staging Whatever I Want and Surprises for Neo Theatre Ensemble. As a staff producer for Delta Entertainment, Stevenson produced and directed nine documentary, biography, and non-fiction films.

The Animal Within will play one preview performance on Friday, November 11 at 8pm. Opening night is set for Saturday, November 12 at 8:00. The regular run will be Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 8pm and 10pm, and Sunday at 7pm, through January 15, 2012. Due to popular demand, The Elephant Theatre Company’s West Coast Premiere of 100 Saints You Should Know has been extended through July 16, 2011.

In 100 Saints You Should Know, a priest who must reconcile his desires with his role in the church, a teenage boy confused about his own sexual identity, and a young woman desperate for spiritual validation, are all brought together on one fateful night in which they will discover the tenuous common ground they share. 100 Saints You Should Know is a compelling and heartbreaking journey in search for self in a discriminatory and alienating world. Co-artistic director Lindsay Allbaugh directs.

The cast features (in alphabetical order) Brendan Farrell, Kate Huffman, Cheryl Huggins, Marco Naggar, and Pamela Roylance. The set design is by Jeffery Eisenmann, lighting and projection design is by Joel Daavid, costume design is by Louis Douglas Jacobs, and sound design is by Peter Bayne. The stage manager is Laura Perez.

NOW OPENING MAY 27 AT THE ELEPHANT SPACE

Actress Cheryl Huggins has joined the cast of 100 Saints You Should Know by Kate Fodor, it was announced today by Elephant co-artistic director David Fofi. Ms. Huggins replaces the previously announced Emma Jacobson-Sive, who has left the production due to a family emergency. Opening night, which had been set for Friday, May 20, will now be Friday, May 27, and 1100 Saints You Should Know will play a limited engagement through June 26.
