ProofNow ready to unveil its newly remodeled space, the Moth Theatre Company is proud to announce its return with a new production of Proof by David Auburn, winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. Directed by John Markland, Proof will open on Thursday, January 15 and run through February 15 only.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Amanda Brooks, John Cirigliano, Chris Marquette, and Felicity Price. Production design is by Justin Huen and Proof is produced for The Moth Theatre Company by Brenda Davidson.

Proof was originally produced by the Manhattan Theatre Club in May, 2000 and transferred to Broadway in October of that year. Along with Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award, the play also won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play, the Drama Desk Award for Best Play, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play.

On the eve of her 25th birthday, a troubled young woman’s brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician, dies. Now she must deal with her own volatile emotions, the arrival of her estranged sister, and the attentions of a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks the father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw the young woman into the most difficult problem of all: how much of her father’s madness—or genius—will she inherit?

The Moth Theatre, John Markland, Artistic Director, Efrain Schunior, Managing Director, has announced their production of Super Sunday, a comedy by Stephen Collins, directed by Jamie Wollrab. The opening is set for Thursday, April 14 at 8pm, and the limited run will end on May 15.

In Super Sunday, a complicated, wise-cracking Vietnam vet turned ad executive finds his life unraveling when he discovers his wife’s interest in one of her acting class partners … a younger man. Oddly comic mayhem ensues as the couple stumbles toward total indifference … and possibly some self-discoveries that could save their marriage. Super Sunday was previously produced at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Wes Chatham, Jen Dede, Alex Desert, Alice Fulks, and Ross McCall. The set design is by Sean Vasquez, lighting design is by Justin Huen, costume design is by Stephanie Powers, and sound design is by Efrain Schunior. The production stage manager is Mara Klein, and the producer for the Moth Theatre is Mara Tasker.

Playwright Stephen Collins has enjoyed success in several different areas of show business. He has appeared on Broadway (Spamalot, Moonchildren, The Ritz), off-Broadway (Durang’s Beyond Therapy, Macbeth with Christopher Walken, with Julie Andrews in the Stephen Sondheim revue Putting It Together at Manhattan Theatre Club). Collins is perhaps best known for his role as the Reverend Eric Camden on more than 200 episodes of 7th Heaven, but his other television credits include shows such as Tales of the Gold Monkey, The Waltons, Barnaby Jones and Charlie’s Angels. He is currently a series regular on the ABC series Modern Family. He is an Emmy Award nominee for his work opposite Ann-Margret in the mini-series The Two Mrs. Grenvilles, and has also written two novels, Eye Contact (1994) and Double Exposure (1998). Among other film credits (including All The President’s Men and Star Trek: The Motion Picture), Collins has appeared in two movies with Diane Keaton, The First Wives Club (1996) and Because I Said So (2007).

Announcing: The Moth Theatre presents The Blue Room

The Moth Theatre has announced their production of The Blue Room, David Hare’s 1998 play, which caused quite a sensation when it was first produced in London and subsequently on Broadway over a decade ago. Directed by John Markland, The Blue Room will open on December 2 and run for twelve performances only through December 19.

There is a common thread that links us all. Contact. Acceptance. Seeing, and maybe more importantly, being seen. Based on La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler, The Blue Room offers a rotation of people spinning on this thread … each person, in his or her own way, expressing an honesty that gives birth to intimacy. The audience plays voyeur, witnessing just how fragile and elusive that thread can be. The Blue Room is for mature audiences only. It contains adult themes, language, and nudity.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Lili Bordan, Scott Dunn, Alice Fulks, Pamela Guest, Justin Huen, Patrick Scott Lewis, James Mendoza, Jan Milewicz, Addison Timlin, and Kate Towne. The design team includes set by Benoit Guerin, lighting by Jenna Pletcher, costume design by Regine Linhares, sound design by Priscilla Watson, and video design by Brian Andrew Mendoza. The production stage manager is Melina Franks, and the producer for the Moth Theatre is Efrain Schunior.

The Blue Room is set to open on Thursday, December 2 at 8pm. The regular performance schedule is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 6pm.
