Announcing: Tilted Field Productions Partners with Son of Semele for “Last Days of Mary Stuart” Workshop

TILTED FIELD PRODUCTIONS
ANNOUNCES COLLABORATION WITH SON OF SEMELE
FOR THE LAST DAYS OF MARY STUART WORKSHOP
FEBRUARY 18 – MARCH 4

The Last Days of Mary Stuart posterTilted Field Productions, a geographically diversified collective with members in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco, has announced their upcoming collaboration with Son of Semele (Matthew McCray, Artistic Director) for a workshop of The Last Days of Mary Stuart.

With a lush and haunting score by LA rockers Byron Kahr and John Nixon, The Last Days of Mary Stuart brings a nearly forgotten clash of rival queens into the 21st Century. Adapted from F. Schiller’s sprawling verse play, this explosive music-driven drama pits the Catholic icon Mary Stuart against the Protestant pragmatist Elizabeth I in a battle for the soul of England.

There will be eight public performances, which are not open for review. The schedule is as follows: Fridays, February 24 & March 2, and Saturdays, February 18 & 25 & March 3, at 11pm; Sundays, February 19 & 26 & March 4, at 8pm. Tickets (general admission seating for $10) are available online at www.sonofsemele.org.

Directed by Becca Wolff, The Last Days of Mary Stuart will feature L.A. bands TONY and whqles. Wolff’s directing credits include productions at the Odyssey Theatre, Theatre of Note, and Ensemble Studio Theatre LA; Usher (NY International Fringe Festival), and Status Update by Tilted Field company member Dorothy Fortenberry, a play with songs that is being produced later this year at Center Rep in Walnut Creek, CA. TONY is vocalist/guitarist Byron Kahr, drummer John Nixon, and Molly Sullivan on bass. Both Kahr and Nixon were formerly band members of the popular local band City of Progress. The band whqles is John Nixon and keyboard player Ryan Adlaf. They are heard regularly around LA at such venues as Funhouse, The Mountain Bar, and The Kibitz Room, among others.

The cast of The Last Days of Mary Stuart will include (in alphabetical order) Alex Knox, Charlotta Mohlin, Meagan Prahl, and Molly Sullivan.  Also participating in the workshop are set designer Michael Locher (Tilted Field member, and currently represented by Troilus & Cressida at Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland), and lighting designer Elizabeth Harper (Ovation Award-nominee for The Twentieth Century Way at The Theatre @ Boston Court). The original rock score is by Byron Kahr and John Nixon, with lyrics by Wolff. Tilted Field company member Roberta Pereira (in NYC) and co-founder Jacob Padrón (in Chicago) are the producers.

Tilted Field Productions, co-founded by Becca Wolff and Jacob Padrón, is a company that creates and develops unique story-based projects in theatre, film, television, and new media. For more information, visit www.tiltedfield.com.

Announcing: Jacob Padrón and Becca Wolff Announce Formation of Tilted Field Productions

JACOB PADRÓN AND BECCA WOLFF
ANNOUNCE FORMATION OF TILTED FIELD PRODUCTIONS

PRODUCTION COMPANY DEVELOPS AND CREATES
UNIQUE STORY-BASED ENTERTAINMENT

Jacob Padrón and Becca Wolff have announced the formation of Tilted Field Productions, their new production company that creates and develops unique story-based projects in theatre, film, television, and new media.

Unlike most production companies, Tilted Field is ensemble-based, and all members are graduates of Yale School of Drama.  Along with Padrón, who is currently an associate producer at the Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Wolff, a director and writer who recently completed the teleplay for a pilot with David Milch (creator of Deadwood and NYPD Blue), they are Dorothy Fortenberry (playwright), Teresa Avia Lim (actor), Michael Locher (designer), and Roberta Pereira (creative producer).

Padrón and Wolff met while grad students at Yale in 2007. Both from Northern California (Gilroy and Watsonville, respectively), an instant rapport developed between them. Together, along with Erik Pearson, they ran the 40th anniversary season of Yale Cabaret, the legendary basement theatre which is a theatrical laboratory for the passion projects of Yale Drama School students.

In 2008, Yale Cabaret was named Best Local Theatre by the New Haven Advocate.  Following their success there, Jacob and Becca committed to forming their own production company where everyone involved would be counted on as an artist as well an administrator and producer; theatre artists would be encouraged to work outside their comfort zones, even in other media, in service of telling their stories.

Said co-founder Padrón, “Our artistic ensemble is intrinsic to the creation, development and execution of our projects.  With all the work we produce, we will remain acutely aware of our audiences and the access they have to experience these stories.”  Added Wolff, “We know there is an intelligent, rebellious audience out there, hungry for entertainment that appeals to the mind and body, rather than genre or market share.”

The ensemble will bring Tilted Field new ideas, help develop projects, spearhead their own projects, and provide guidance, inspiration, and support on the projects the company produces. Over the next 12 months, Tilted Field will develop and produce three new properties:  a visual adaptation of a novel by a celebrated Mexican author, a sketch comedy web series culled from 500 hours of recorded improvisation, and the company’s inaugural project will be Tilted Shakespeare – to honor their theatrical roots – a 100% tilted interpretation of a classic Shakespeare tale.

Tilted Field Productions hosted an official launch party on Sunday, August 22 at Umami Burger in Hollywood, which was attended by over 100 friends, family, and fellow artists from across the country.  For complete biographical information on Jacob Padrón, Becca Wolff, and/or the ensemble members of Tilted Field Productions, visit www.tiltedfield.com.
