Announcing: Erich Bergen Confirmed to Play Bob Gaudio in ‘Jersey Boys’ Film

Erich BergenIt is now confirmed that Erich Bergen will reprise his critically acclaimed portrayal of Bob Gaudio in the film version of Jersey Boys, directed by Clint Eastwood. Bergen played the role in the First National Tour, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas casts of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical.

Bergen’s film debut, How Sweet It Is, co-starring Paul Sorvino and Erika Christensen, will be released on DVD, iTunes and OnDemand in Fall 2013. On television, he has appeared on Gossip Girl, Person Of Interest, Desperate Housewives, Franklin & Bash, and he also starred in Joey Dakota, a 2012 pilot for the CW Network. Bergen’s other recent stage work includes Billy Crocker in the National Tour of Roundabout Theatre Company’s Anything Goes, the title role in Hero at the Marriott Lincolnshire, and Rudi Gernreich in the Los Angeles premiere of The Temperamentals.

Erich BergenErich Bergen, currently starring as Billy Crocker in the national tour of Anything Goes, is set to bring his one-night-only concert to San Francisco’s premiere nightclub, Live At The RRazz, on Monday, January 28 at 8pm. Anything Goes is currently playing at the Golden Gate Theatre through February 3. Of Bergen’s performance, Rob Hurwitt in The San Francisco Chronicle, said, “ … the hopeless romantic Billy Crocker [is] embodied by the wonderful Erich Bergen with leading man charisma, fine song-and-dance chops, and comic versatility.”

Erich Bergen is perhaps best known for his critically acclaimed performance as Four Seasons member Bob Gaudio in the first national tour and Las Vegas companies of the Broadway smash Jersey Boys. Other stage work includes A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum for Reprise Theatre Company, Venice for Center Theatre Group at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, and A Snow White Christmas for Lythgoe Family Productions. Bergen’s television credits include Gossip Girl, Desperate Housewives, Person of Interest, and Franklin & Bash. He will make his feature film debut starring opposite Erika Christensen, Joe Piscopo, and Paul Sorvino in How Sweet It Is, scheduled for a 2013 release. Last summer, he played the title role in Hero, a world premiere musical at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, Illinois. Bergen is also an accomplished songwriter and recording artist. Written by Brian Herzlinger and Jay Black, How Sweet It Is focuses on the life of a down-on-his-luck, alcoholic theatre owner named Jack, who is in danger of losing the one thing he loves most because he is in debt to the mob. Jack has one last chance to save his legendary musical theatre, and it hinges on his new musical production called “How Sweet It Is,” which must have a strong opening night. The mob boss, however, fancies himself a casting director and insists his cronies and misfit friends play the parts.

How Sweet It Is is produced by Steven Chase, Rick Finkelstein, Suzanne DeLaurentiis, Ivan Kavalsky, Keith Weiner, and Matthew L. Weiner.
