Sixth Avenue has announced “I♥99 The Musical!,” a one-night-only cabaret event to save Los Angeles intimate theatre. Produced by Adam Silver and directed by Daniel Henning, the curtain will go up on Tuesday, March 10 at 8:00 at Akbar in Silver Lake.

The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Tisha Terrasini Banker, Burglars of Hamm, Parvesh Cheena, Deborah S. Craig, Drew Droege, Daisy Eagan, Tom Lenk, Constance Jewell Lopez, Amy Pietz, French Stewart, Jeffrey Todd, Kirsten Vangsness, and more to be announced. All performers are subject to availability.

Pro99 is a collection of thousands of individual theatrical artists that have become a community choosing to work in intimate theatres (under 99 seats) in Los Angeles. The community includes professional actors, directors, writers, designers, stage managers, and producers. Many are proud members of Actors Equity Association and most are members of other unions as well. The Pro99 community believes it has the right to perform its crafts in an intimate and non-commercial setting and volunteer its talents in search of creative fulfillment. Sixth Avenue’s Town Hall Back Room Reading Series has announced it will present 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche by Evan Linder and Andrew Hobgood at Akbar in Silver Lake. The play will be read one night only, Tuesday, October 14 at 8:00.

Directed by Brooke Seguin, the cast will include (in alphabetical order) . In 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche, it’s 1956 and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche breakfast. Will they be able to keep their cool when Communists threaten their idyllic town?

Sixth Avenue was founded by Adam Silver in 2011 with a focus on creating bold and boundary-pushing theatre experiences that continue the conversation long after the event. Past productions include the world premiere of William Nedved’s Fact & Fiction directed by Dámaso Rodriguez, and the Los Angeles premiere of Adam Szymkowicz’s Nerve directed by Michael Matthews.

Town Hall is Sixth Avenue’s new monthly play reading series and will take place on the second Tuesday of every month at Akbar. Following 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche, readings are scheduled for November 11 and December 9 with more to be announced for 2015.

More than 50 film and television stars will perform Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues in an intimate theatrical setting for three performances only, May 16, 17, and 18 at 8pm, at the Atwater Village Theatre in Los Angeles. Produced and directed by Sheena Metal for Ensemble Studio Theatre Los Angeles, all proceeds will benefit V-Day, A Global Movement to End Violence Against Women and Girls, and Protect.org, a national pro-child, anti-crime association committed to building a powerful, nonpartisan force for the protection of children from abuse, exploitation and neglect.

“It is exciting to work with so many great actresses, all of whom are graciously donating their time and talents,” said Metal, whose popular LATalkRadio show, The Sheena Metal Experience (M-F, 5-7pm) is only one of four programs she hosts on LATR each week. “I salute every artist, onstage and off, that is contributing to this special presentation of The Vagina Monologues.”

Among the long list of luminous actresses who will perform in the three benefit performances are (in alphabetical order) Alison Arngrim, Yvette Cason, Daisy Eagan, Ilene Graff, Sally Kirkland, Ann Noble, Jenny O’Hara, Susan Olsen, Lizzie Peet, Suzanne Westenhoefer, and Kim Yarbrough. To date, the V-Day movement, founded by playwright/actress Eve Ensler, has raised over $75 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it. In 2006, the V-Day movement was named one of Marie Claire Magazine’s Top Ten Charities, and in 2010, over 5400 V-Day benefit events took place produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls. In 12 years, the V-Day movement has reached over 300 million people.
