NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS

Brimmer Street Theatre Company logoBrimmer Street Theatre Company’s seventh annual Blueprint Series is now accepting submissions, with a deadline of August 24 to submit applications. The Blueprint Series provides opportunities for playwrights to work with the BSTC ensemble, in collaboration with other artists, to develop new plays.

The BSTC Blueprint Series focuses on developing work from the ground up (completed scripts are not eligible for this program). Projects will be selected by the BSTC ensemble based on the concept of a play, including genre, plot, cast, along with other elements. Duration of the development process is ten weeks, at the conclusion of which the company may offer further studio development, a public reading, or even a full production of a play that has been built during the process.

Past Blueprint Series projects have included Pack up the Moon by Christina Cigala (produced by BSTC in 2013), All Your Hard Work by Miles Brandman (produced by BSTC in 2012), 1969 by Damon Chua (produced by GatChu Productions and Rogue Machine Theatre in 2012), Leiris/Picasso by David Jette (produced by BSTC in 2010), and more.

Brimmer Street Theatre Company is a non-profit ensemble theatre that creates and produces new works of theatre in order to cultivate artists and engage audiences in Los Angeles. By working from a select core of talented artists, BSTC aims to produce a unique brand of American theatre that is rooted in a common experience and driven by their commitment to building better theatre that is challenging, extraordinary, and inspiring.

Brimmer Street Theatre Company logoAs part of its 2014 Blueprint Series play development program, Brimmer Street Theatre Company has announced public readings of three new plays. Judy Presley on a Binge by Chelsea Sutton will be presented on Tuesday, October 7 at 8pm; Madame by Michelle Meyers will be presented on Sunday, November 9 at 7:30pm; and Gentlemen by David Jette will be presented on Sunday, November 16 at 7:30pm. Judy Presley on a Binge will be at the 2nd Stage Theatre in Hollywood; Madame and Gentlemen will be at Studio A Dance in Silver Lake. Following each presentation, audiences will be invited to engage in brief discussions with the playwrights and participating artists. Admission is free and no reservations are required.

The BSTC Blueprint Series focuses on developing work from the ground up. Dozens of playwrights submitted to the program with ideas for plays they would like to develop through ten weeks of collaboration with the Brimmer Street ensemble. This is the Sixth Annual Blueprint Series, and plays developed through this program which have been produced in Los Angeles include 1969 by Damon Chua, All Your Hard Work by Miles Brandman, and Flower to Flower by Christina Cigala.

Chelsea Sutton’s Judy Presley on a Binge follows the employees of The Grand Elsinore Hotel and their most treasured and troublesome yearly guest, Judy Presley, only two days before the Elsinore’s infamous Halloween party. Michelle Meyers’s Madame is a tale of scandal, magic, and radioactive love based on the life of Marie Curie. In David Jette’s Gentlemen (based on Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona), two best friends from Ventura get into the business of hardcore porn and let envy and lust destroy their reputations and their friendship.
